A large and prominent specimen growing in parkland surrounding the historic 'Murndal' homestead, 33km west of Hamilton. The Murndal Tree Book lists this tree as being a seedling of the Cowthorpe Oak from near Wetherly, Yorkshire, already thought to be 1650 years old in 1842. The tree was planted in 1886 by Sam and Alice Winter-Cooke and is known as the "Cowthorpe Oak". The tree has recently has several large limbs removed but has deadwood and storm damage which requires attention.. Located in small paddock North West of homestead.
