Aesthetic value
A very attractive low-spreading specimen growing in the north-west corner of this private property. When in flower the tree is outstanding and its well-shaped canopy touches the ground. it is thought to have been planted by Dave Matthews, Curator of Footscray Gardens in the late 1930s.
Calodendrum capense is native to the east side of the African continent from the highlands of Kenya southwards through Tanzania and South Africa
The name of 'Cape Chestnut' came from its resemblance to Horse Chestnut, however it is not related.
