Contribution to the landscape.
This is a small stand of remnant Silver Banksia (Banksia marginata) on the eastern side of Green Hill. The species was once common on the Keilor Plains and these trees are the last known survivors. The trees are only in a fair condition and require fencing and weed control to maintain them in a healthy condition and encourage their regeneration.
19/03/2012 (CB): Reportof onlyone treestill in existence . It is possibly the last remnant Banksia marginata on the Werribee/Keilor Plains. It is now 98 - 100 years old and in poor and declining health. Genetic material should be collected and germinated as it is still producing flowers and has many old seed cones.
