Aesthetic value
An outstanding hedge planting (windbreak) of Osage Orange. First introduced from the USA in the 1860s, few examples now survive. Remnants occur around the vineyards at Rutherglen and orchards at Bacchus Marsh. Plantings also occur at "Mawallock", "Murndal"and "Heide"as well as an outstanding tree in the Systems Garden at Melbourne University. The planting also extends along the north side of the Ovens Highway, east of the row in question. This is the best known example of hedge planting in Victoria.
These trees are located on the Ovens Highway, on the south side between Everton-Markwood Rd and the service station at Everton.
January 2014: The condition of these trees has deteriorated and some specimens have collapsed. However, it still remains an impressive hedgerow planting considering its age. The surrounding Eucalypts now dwarf the hedgerow
