Rare or localised

A small fragile stand of one mature tree (8m in height) and several juveniles, but it is difficult to distinguish between seedlings and suckers. The area was burnt in 1979 and only the large tree survived..
The native range of Santalum lanceolatum, alsoknown as the Desert Quandong, is from north-western Victoria through NSW to North Queensland, NT and NW Western Australia. It occurs primarily in arid and semi-arid inland areas but is becoming increasingly rare across much of its desert range due to destructive browsing by feral camels.
This tree is located in Briens Gorge, near Jubilee Falls picnic area, Warby Ranges State Park, near Wangaratta.
