Statement of Significance

Outstanding size

The stand includes the tallest known tree in Victoria (The Big Tree) and is located near the old Cambarville Mill in the Cumberland Valley. As the area escaped the 1939 fires, it contains one of the few remaining virgin stands of Mountain Ash in Victoria. However the best trees in the district were felled by early timber cutters and there are many 3-4 metre high butts throughout the bush.
