Statement of Significance

Outstanding Size:
A tree outstanding for its large height, trunk circumference or canopy spread.

A historic marker erected in 1988 under this tree reads "Adjacent to this tree is the site where the rescue party searching for Burke & Wills camped in 1862". The tree is in good condition despite having a burnt-out hollow trunk to 4m. Some protection may need to be erected to discourage further lighting of fires within the tree. Early in 2011 the tree was severly damaged in a wind storm.
