Calder Woodburn Memorial Avenue
An impressive double avenue planting comprising several Eucalyptus species. A unique planting, the various bark textures and colours are very attractive. In late 1943 Mr JE Woodburn proposed the avenue - occurring amonst existing trees - as a memorial to his son, killed in WWII. In June 1945, 145 trees were planted in two rows by Mr Woodburn, south of Seven Creeks. Many have name plaques at their bases. Further plantings occurred in 1946 (263 trees); 1947 (998); 1948 (638) and 1949 (392). The avenue is one of the longest in Victoria and the only other WWII commemorative planting apart from the example at Mortlake.
