Curious Growth Form
Known locally as the 'Bottle Tree', this specimen is notable for its unusual gall formation at the base of the trunk. Diameter of gall: 2.25m; length of gall: 2.6m. While these trunk growths are not unusual, this example is the largest surveyed in Victoria. The growth is separate from the main trunk and has decayed inside. The tree has also lost its crown and the tree is in a generally declining state.
The tree is on the Bonang Highway, above a disused gravel pit, 1.9km before the Gap turnoff to Bendoc, when heading towards Bendoc from Goongerah.
