Initially needed to provide Beechworth town water supply, it is bordered by open forest of Brittle Gum (E. mannifera) to form a large open enclosure. The flat sheet of water is highlighted by occasional white tree trunks and extensive reed beds provide habitat for water birds. Objects of interest include the old Water Valve and weathered rock faces which add diversity. LOCATION: 5 km east of Beechworth at the old Hurdle Flat Swamp. Recorded: 17/11/1975
