A pleasant rural valley, enclosed by forested slopes of But But (E. bridgesiana) and Brittle Gum (E. mannifera). The steeply sided timbered ranges provide complete contrast to the flat valley floor. Vegetation on the river flats consists of River Red Gum (E. camaldulensis) and Swamp Gum (E. ovata). The exotics include mature willows, magnolias, poplars and elms. Pines, apple orchards and walnut groves provide variety. Ample evidence of the past mining days still can be seen in this historic valley. There are several fine brick buildings (the school is Classified) and small miners cottages. LOCATION: A southerly segment of the Ovens River centred by Harrietville. Recorded: 17/11/1975
