This area includes landforms which range from river flats, through sandy heaths to rolling hills which reach an elevation of 600 ft. near Poowong. The area is crossed by tributaries of the Lang Lang River which have produced a gently undulating topography. Much of the area is good farmland, which has not been over-developed, and is traversed by winding, treed roadlines. Indigenous stands of heath and Messmate forest still remain. This area includes both low lying and hilly terrain. To the west are the alluvial flats of the Lang Lang River with undulating surface which increases in elevation eastward to 200 ft. at the base of the dissected escarpment which marks the line of the Bass fault. The general elevation of the eastern hills is below 350 ft., but several higher knolls provide scenic viewing points. Near Poowong surface elevation exceeds 600 ft at several points. The area is crossed by a network of stream lines, many of which are treed with Swamp Paperbark, Melaleuca ericifolia, or Eucalypts, E.ovata, E.viminalis or E.obliqua. Road lines are generally narrow and sinuous with treed verges; bitumen surfaces do not detract from the rural atmosphere. Throughout the area good soils carry good pastures which are grazed by beef and dairy cattle. Clumps of trees have been left in many cleared paddocks and some stands of Messmate, E.obliqua, forest remain. A line of subdued sand dunes crosses the area 1-4 miles north-west of Nyora. Most of the dunes are uncleared and carry rich stands of Manna Gum, E.viminalis, heathy woodland. LOCATION: East of the township of Lang Lang, this area is bounded on the north by the Lang Lang River, on the west by the South Gippsland Railway to Nyora, on the south by the road from Nyora to Poowong, and on the east by road which follows the ridge northward from Poowong to the Lang Lang River.
