Statement of Significance
The significance of Hawthorn Grove derives from the variety of design and decoration of its late 19th century detached houses. Few other streets in Melbourne offer such an intact representation of upper middle-class houses from the post 1890s Depression and Federation period in so great a number or with such a wealth of decoration in glass, cast iron, plaster and polychromatic brickwork.
