Statement of Significance

Wangaratta Railway Station is architecturally important as an example of an 1870s standard design large station building, surviving today in close proximity with other railway buildings and engineering infrastructure including signal box and signal masts, footbridge, goods shed, crane and water tower with water column. The complex is highly representative of nineteenth century railway operations and is important also as a major centre on the intercolonial railway to Wodonga and Sydney. Its intact state causes it to be rare at the State level.
