Statement of Significance

Herman Hohaus produced a great number of small figurative sculptures, most of which were cast in bronze by the artist. Prometheus is one of the relatively small number of large scale works by the artist. Generally speaking he worked best on an intimate, small scale, but Prometheus is both a successful and a typical work, illustrating the artist's links with classical sculpture. Of the few commissions obtained by Hohaus, most were for churches.
