Statement of Significance

The pastoral run Minjah was established by brothers Jeremiah George and Joseph Ware in 1845. The present homestead, the third to be built on the property, was erected in 1870 for Joseph Ware from a design by Warrnambool architect Andrew Kerr. The two story stucco rendered mansion is a conservative classicism design, traditionally enhanced with pattern book derived motifs and an unusual iron verandah to one elevation.
Minjah station is one of a number of pastoral properties established by the Ware brothers in the mid nineteenth century and developed as leading grazing and breeding establishments in the Western District. Jeremiah George Ware, one of the earliest pioneers to settle in Victoria and who died accidentally in 1859, was a member of the first Legislative Assembly in Victoria. The homestead building is the most distinguished residential work of conservative Warrnambool architect Andrew Kerr.
Minjah homestead building is well maintained and intact.
