Statement of Significance

The Guildford Hotel built circa 1856, Music Hall and Stables most probably built in the 1860s form a significant complex with associations with the history of Guildford as an early gold-mining town. The complex retains many features typical of hotels of the period, in particular its stables and rare surviving music hall, once a feature of prominent hotels throughout the district. The hotel, which is a distinctive local landmark on a major intersection, is little altered externally and retains its original sense of a series of small interconnecting rooms. It has been a community meeting place for more than 130 years and was used in the last century for Borough Council meetings and for auctions of land, machinery and household goods.
