Bungeeltap Homestead, Ballan, was first settled in 1838 by Cowle and Stead and was acquired by Dugald MacPherson in 1854. McPherson erected a two-storey, stone house in a Gothic style circa 1863. Circa 1922, the upper storey was removed and the house was completely rebuilt. The homestead now presents a large, hipped roof continuing to form the verandahs and has large chimneys as the other main feature.
Bungeeltap Homestead, Ballan, is of note primarily as one of the first properties to be taken up in the Ballan area. The property also has historical associations with the settlement of the district and with Dugald MacPherson, who built the architecturally important gothic Revival homestead. The present building, the defaced remains of the gothic structure, is of interest architecturally for this practice of "reducing" substantial Victorian buildings, of which Bungeeltap is by no menas the only example.
Bungeeltap Homestead, Ballan, achieved its present form circa 1922.
