Statement of Significance

Constructed for Victorian Railways in 1862 by Robert Turnbull and Co. The complex consists of a single-storied basalt station building, an attached two-storey residence and timber additions. There is also a basalt lamp room, a timber framed waiting shelter and van goods shed. It is historically significant as one of the earliest stations built in Victoria at a time of the formative years of railway development. Architecturally, it is significant as an example of the 'Carlsruhe' Style, a derivative of the 'English' style - a design style typical in the 1840's-1850's. Classified 27/06/1968
