Statement of Significance

A pharmacy of local historical and social significance as the one which has remained longest in the hands of the founding family. Wells' Pharmacy is viewed as a local landmark, and is closely associated with John Joseph Wells, who established a tent pharmacy in Kyneton in 1855, becoming one of the town's most prominent practitioners. The present building was in existence at least by 1884 and has been continually occupied by the Wells family ever since. Well's Pharmacy is an integral part of the streetscape and forms a backdrop to the important group of buildings around the Mollison Street and Jennings Street intersection.
