Statement of Significance

A large bluestone church with triple gables and Geometric Decorated tracery, which is one of a number of Australian churches designed by the English architect Charles Hansom. Work began under the supervision of George & Schneider in 1857 and was completed in 1869 under W Wardell. The church is almost identical to St Patrick's, Kilmore (1857) also by Hansom, George & Schneider and Wardell. The triple gabled arrangement of the nave and aisles is continuous with no external expression of the chancel and side chapels. The organ gallery, designed by Connelly of Kempson, Connelly & Oldham, dates from 1892.
