Statement of Significance

The former Kyneton and District Butter and Cheese Factory is architecturally significant at the Regional level as one of Kyneton's early industrial buildings (1860s). It is unusual in that it is a mixture of bluestone, sandstone and rendered brick. Built as a flour mill, it exhibits little sign of its use as a dairy industry building, yet the building is historically significant for the sequence of uses sustained over time and for the application of architectural fashionable detail to an industrial building.
