Statement of Significance

An Edwardian essay in the picturesque, influenced by the American Shingle and Stick Styles, but in the tradition of John Nash's Blaise Hamlet and Dairy and the cottage ornee and of Marie Antoinette's Hameau at Versailles; of particular local interest in that the use of natural round timber posts and braces simulating branching trees, which occurs at Blaise Hamlet, had previously appeared in H B Lane's designs for the government buildings at Ballarat in 1853.
