Statement of Significance

Built in 1854 as the Golden Point Hotel, it was soon to become the Terminus Hotel as construction of the Newport to Geelong and Ballarat line neared its completion in 1857.
It is remarkable for its 3 storeys and its bowed corner, complete with curved window-joinery and entrance doors. Other Geelong hotels were to utilise the curved corner, in later years, as they also were to utilise the subtlely bayed facade treatment of the Terminus.
Architects, Snell and Frederick Kawerau, designed the hotel in brick for one N Gilbert. The first licensee was Charles Fasserd who had previously spent 15 years as a manager of large hotels in Europe, Britain and America.
