Statement of Significance

The former Noorinbee School, constructed in 1899, is historically significant at a regional level as a near original example of a parent-built school leased by the Education Departent while still being used for community purposes. Although once a common practice in remote areas, particularly in north and east Gippsland, intact examples of parent built school-halls are rare, especially located on their original sites and used for school purposes. The building also has great local significance as an early centre for community life in the district.
