Statement of Significance

The Tandarook Cheese Factory is historically and architecturally significant at a regional level. As the only cheese factory not also making butter or side products Tandarook was remarkably different in nature to other cheese factories in the Western District. Tandarook was also one of the earliest cheese factories in the Western District. The tall severe chimney is a local landmark. The red brick and timber building is pleasantly situated in the rolling green hills of lush dairying country on the historic Tandarook Estate. Its physical location adds to its aesthetic qualities.
