Statement of Significance

The first Colac Shire Hall (1865) was replaced by this more substantial and imposing structure in 1892. The new Shire Hall manifested Colac's increasing prosperity and development in the nineteenth century.
This Italianate building is symmetrical about the entrance, presenting a robust and confident set of patterns to the street.
The streetscape appearance is enhanced by the ground floor windows which are arched and echoed in the adjacent post office.
