The Maryborough Hospital Boiler House is historically, technically and socially significant to Victoria's industrial heritage at State Level, for the following reasons:
1) It is the best and most intact surviving example of a 20th century boiler house in Victoria equipped with Victorian-made underfired multitubular boilers (once the most common type of boiler in use in Victoria).
2) It is a well preserved and documented example of Victorian manufactured boilers designed specifically for efficient manually stoked wood-fired operation.
3) It is the last commercially-operating (non-tourist) wood-fired boiler house in Victoria to use traditional cut firewood billets purchased from timber-cutters (as distinct from wood-fired boilers using sawdust, woodchips or sawmill offcuts).
4) It is the only operating boiler house in Victoria that has a bank of two or more underfired multitubular boilers still in use.
5) It is a rare surviving example of a work place that reflects 19th century work practices in its layout, equipment presentation, management, operation and staff pride.
