The former Bank of New South Wales, High Street, was erected in 1877 when Echuca was a bustling river port. The architects were Reed and Barnes. The two storey brick structure has a rendered facade. It is composed of a two tier arcade and loggia flanked by projecting entrance wings. Squat Corinthian pilasters and square columns decorate the first floor facade and loggia. The ground floor arcade has rusticated arches and piers. Finials decorate the parapet.

This is a distinctive example of bank architecture in the conservative classical style and an important work of the architects Reed and Barnes. The design of the facade reflects the Bank 's former Head Office in Melbourne. The distinctive composition of solid side wings and void loggia is accentuated by the rendered facade and the dark red bricks in the recessed spaces. The fine detailing and unusual finials are particularly important features. The building is an essential element of this historicregional city.

The building is no longer used as a bank, it is however excellently preserved and in a structurally sound condition. Of State signifiance.
