Designed in 1938 by J H Wardrop, this is Victoria's most articulate example in the Moderne manner. This hotel was a development in three dimensions of the theme so ably expressed in the architects contemporary Al kira House. The building is greatly enhanced by its near island siting and is externally and internally near original, with the exception of post-war rear additions.
The 1957 addition to the South is excluded.
