9-19 King William Street, Fitzroy are individually Recorded, Individual Statement of Significance: A row of two-storey brick houses with rendered facades with continuous simply molded string course window surrounds and parapet cornice, all built from 1854-59, 9-13 for James Sloane, pioneer, and 15-19 for William Bates, merchant and later MLC. The six-or-four paned sash windows and two of the front doors probably original; 15-19 painted in a lighter colour than 9-13.
Group Statement of Significance: Row of 8 two-storey brick houses with rendered facades, parapets with simple moldings and six-paned well proportioned windows; numbers 9-19 identical, 21 and 23 each similar; currently painted in five varying colours. All built from 1854-60s for four different owners who, with subsequent early owners and occupants are representative of Fitzroy's background in business, politics and the theatre.
