Statement of Significance

Thirty single storey houses of uniform design and depth, together with six identical two-storey houses placed at the intersecting corners of Greeves and Fitzroy Streets and Greeves and Mahoney Streets, combine to form a remarkable example of a 19th century speculative building project.
This project is probably unique in Melbourne for its attention to design and perspective in what would normally be an undistinguished jumble of housing. It is further enhanced by the placement of an adjoining terrace of single storey houses in Mahoney Street, which, forming a T-intersection, presents a streetscape of uniform perspective.
