Statement of Significance

A two storeyed hotel with a four storey tower at one end, erected in 1888 for a Mr Farrell. The stuccoed structure has a masonry arcade along the street frontage, a cast iron verandah to the first floor and a parapet with urns and twin name plates. The tower has a smooth rusticated bottom storey with Serlian motif above, prominent string courses and a parapet with name plates to each face.
The hotel is a landmark and an important element in Yarra Glen and the surrounding landscape. It is an important example of the substantial structures erected at seaside and country resorts during the Boom period of the 1880's and is an important representation of this way of life now lost. architecturally the structure is typically Boom style but is given particular distinction by the masonry arcade with iron verandah and the 'Italianate' tower.
The hotel has recently been renovated. It is in good condition and is reasonably intact.
