Guernsey House was built in 1883 by Peter Grut, carpenter and shipwright . The architect is not known. Originally the house would have faced the lagoon, which was subsequently filled in. It is a fine example of a large double storey brick terrace house. The front door is surrounded by an elaborate fanlight and sidelights and these are matched by large and flamboyant tripartite ground floor windows. The upper storey windows are much more restrained. The parapet has intact urns and applied cement render decorations. The cast iron frieze, brackets, balustrading and columns are of elegant design and there is a cast iron double palisade front fence.
