Statement of Significance

Blairgowrie House is a single storey villa with tower, built in the 1870s on an elevated site by an unknown owner. The house is asymmetrically arranged with a gabled wing to each face. Construction is of random coursed limestone with a slate roof, timber verandah and rendered chimneys, eaved and string courses and window sills. The eaves brackets, gable and tower details are distinctive.
Blairgowrie House is a distinctively planned and detailed house in the Italianate style, is architecturally important and is a local landmark. The house has most unusually been designed with four main facades to suit the elevated site. The details of the gables, the brackets, timber finials and vents are notably Italian in origin. The tower is a distinctive feature, the acroteria and paired corner brackets, the weathervane and string courses being of note.
Blairgowrie House was restored in 1972 and was owned by the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and leased as a private residence until 1991. The interior has been modernised.
