Statement of Significance

An attractive limestone cottage built by 1877 for Margaret McGrath (1834-1918 ), nee Sullivan, a member of two of Portsea's most prominent pioneer families. It was probably built and designed by the local builder John Farnsworth and its fine features include a verandah with carved posts, ornate architraves and skirting boards and hand-etched coloured glass panels. It is one of the few remaining small, but well-built, limestone cottages which have given the Mornington Peninsula its charm.
