Statement of Significance

A reinforced concrete and brick water tower within the railway station grounds. The reinforced concrete tank is in the shape of an inverted cone and has a capacity of 20,000 gallons. It is carried on a circular brick base with corbelled cap and plain frieze, the uppermost course being in bluestone. There is a timber access door to the tower at the base with a bluestone lintel.
The only other known example of a water tower of this type was demolished at Dandenong in January 1964. This tower was built in 1911.
Built by James Younger in 1910, itis the last remaining example of a small group of Edwardian towers of this design and it makes a unique contribution to contemporary understanding of railway water towers . It is the only concrete railway water tower in existence and is enhanced by a substantially intact nineteenth and early twentieth century railway environment.
