An early and outstanding example of the work of North and Williams in which the Decorated Gothic style is dramatically interpreted in the manner of the Arts and Crafts. The exterior is striking in the steep proportions, sheer brick surfaces, simple octagonal turrets, the stylized tracery and eight ringed arch of the great west window, and the complex central lantern spire. The interior is overwhelmingly dramatic, again with sheer brick surfaces and with a brick-clad concrete-framed roof gallery sailing low across the chancel on a shallow pointed vault. There are wood carvings in the arts and Crafts tradition, the most engaging being the possums and platypuses of the choir stalls.
