A fine basalt building erected in 1878 to the design of H R Bastow, Chief Architect, Education Department of Victoria and other than for the enlargement of ground floor windows and the additional entrances, not much altered since that time. The belfry is a handsome feature. It is of interest that much of the basalt was quarried on site.
A similar building was erected at the same time at Urquart Street, Ballarat, with the external walling carried out in red and white brickwork.
