Statement of Significance

An office and retail building of 1938, clad in terracotta faience, erected to the design of the architect, Marcus Barlow. It is in sympathy with the Manchester Unity Building of the previous decade. The sensitive definition of the vertical elements, with the division of the window bays by fins, culminating in the treatment of the corner turret, are distinctive features. In addition, the restrained ornamentations and the cantilevering of the building from first floor level on the northern facade contribute to make the building a significant one of the immediate pre-war period.
