A brick church, with stone detailing, built in 1889-90 and designed by George de Lacy Evans and which is a rare and well-developed essay in the Early French Gothic manner. This devised ultimately from the publications of E E Viollet-le -Duc and had been popularised through the muscular Victorian interpretations of the English architect William Burges, as evidenced here by the broad conically roofed tower. The church is also significant for the deliberate use of red brick which had recently come into favour, and the fact that it is a rare surviving example of a Union Church in Victoria.
