Statement of Significance

A well-preserved warehouse complex consisting of four brick buildings and a paved courtyard. The five storey warehouse was constructed in 1887 to make use of the hydraulic lifts and hoists then coming into use in Melbourne and is now a rare extant example of multi storey warehousing in the State. The whole complex is a remnant of the system of warehouses which operated in the area and a reminder of the use of the nearby river frontages for shipping and trade.
