Statement of Significance

A squatter's homestead which is the oldest house on French Island, and a rare Australian example of true wattle and daub construction: using ti-tree wattling set in a frame of adzed timbers with dowelled joints, roofed in palings, and incorporating paving of handmade bricks, some of which appear to be from the Corinella settlements.
