Statement of Significance

A former warehouse of State architectural and historical significance. The former warehouse, completed in 1889 for L Stevenson and Sons, softgoods merchants and warehousemen, is the only known surviving building constructed by this pioneering firm. Architecturally, it is an impressively scaled basalt structure with strong detailing evocative of its industrial use and is one of the few original examples outside the Melbourne Central Business District.
