The pair of terrace houses were erected in 1861-62 for Abraham Linacre, a noted building contractor. In 1870 they were purchased by the Parry family who still owned the property in 1936. Edward A Parry, a noted plasterer, is shown as owner in 1878. The two storey brick structure has a rendered facade. The ground floor is rusticated and has a recessed arcade. The fine cornice and plain parapet are surmounted by a name plate.
This is a notable example of terrace house architecture in the conservative classical style and has a typical composition. The rusticated ground floor arcade, fine cornice and delicate parapet decorations are particularly notable. It is an essential element of the Lygon Street precinct and a typical example of a building type which is a distinctive feature of inner suburban Melbourne. The cast iron palisade fence is compatible with the terrace.
