Statement of Significance

This is a fair example of an all timber bridge common at the beginning of this century. Very few of this type now remain and its location close to the metropolitan area makes it a suitable subject for retention if the municipality or other local bodies can provide the continuing maintenance effort that will be necessary to keep it safe for foot traffic. A further advantage of this site is its close proximity to a number of other bridges of varying ages and diverse forms of construction, including a wrought iron girder bridge (1868) also over the Maribyrnong River. This should make the area of considerable interest for bridge engineers.
