A large city store progressively developed by the one business since 1860 when George Robertson built the first three-storey shop. It was later enlarged and the building as we see it today primarily dates from 1889. It is notable for its architectural contribution to Elizabeth Street and for its historical associations with one of Melbourne's oldest businesses.
