Statement of Significance

A house of unknown origins, although it seems that it was built for Edward Harrison Lamont c 1861. The stuccoed villa is single storied and symmetrically planned with an encircling verandah supported on paired cast iron columns and a gabled central porch with finial. A servants wing extends to the west at the rear. The two storied stables are of unrendered brick with a gabled slate roof.
It is of considerable importance as a representative example of an early villa house of the period, complete with stables and large grounds all largely intact. The house is in the Italianate Style and is an austere design enlivened by the verandah and porch, which is the principle architectural feature and may be a later addition.
The stables are substantial and architecturally relate to, yet contrast with the house.
Stables exist but are much defaced.
