Statement of Significance

Built in 1929 to the design of Cedric H Ballantyne for the Athenaeum Club, this building has an elegant elevation in the Georgian revival manner which contributes to an important commercial streetscape. The building was the second home of one of Melbourne's oldest men's clubs and is near original internally and externally, with notable areas including the basement Spanish style swimming pool, shopfronts and ground level foyer with its lift car and open metal enclosure.
