Statement of Significance

The group of Observatory Buildings are related mainly as individual structures to house particular astronomical apparatus and equipment and the functions are clearly defined, particularly by the domes which form the most conspicuous elements in the grouping, which is a functional grouping to suit the individual pieces of apparatus rather than an architectural disposition. The apparent informality lends considerable interest to the total lay-out, with the main building forming the visual centrepiece.
